Book Cover Junkie Interviews Fantasy, Time Travel, Past Lives Romance Author D.F. Jones

USA Today Best-Selling Author, #1 International Bestseller, #1 Amazon Bestseller, D. F. Jones began her career as a broadcast consultant at the ABC Affiliate in Nashville, which led her to open an advertising agency. She downsized her agency to care for her parents. Writing is a source of creative expression for D.F. Jones, but it also releases stress. Writing takes her to a place where anything is possible, and fiction takes her to a place made of dreams.

Whether it’s angels and demons, time travel adventures, witches, wizards, or ghosts, her books are action-packed with supernatural and romantic elements.

She’s happily married to the love of her life and best friend. They have two beautiful sons whom she loves and adores more than life itself. She loves to laugh, and her husband keeps her in stitches! She’s a fan of the Tennessee Titans and enjoys working in her flower gardens.

Interview:

Tell us about your book, Soul Love! What inspired you to write it?

I love the idea of time travel and the notion that our souls carry the wisdom of multiple lifetimes. The spark for this story came while working on the Shifting Magic anthology with a group of terrific fellow authors.

Summer Jewel, my protagonist, mirrors my love for charming hometowns with her bookstore in the town square. Every day, she witnesses the enchanting transformation of an old Victorian house across the street by a skilled interior designer. The designer’s open invitation to explore the house alone becomes Summer’s secret adventure. One day, her curiosity leads her to a mysterious attic door that exudes an irresistible allure.

Her explorations don’t go unnoticed, and the enigmatic owner, Rogan Randolph, soon extends a warm invitation to dinner in the now-restored home. A tornado brings them closer, igniting a whirlwind romance that Summer never saw coming. Yet, the attic’s pull proves too strong. Sneaking back, she’s catapulted back in time, awakening in the early twentieth century, where she confronts a startling truth: her soul inhabits a different body. As she delves into the mysteries of reincarnation, she discovers that love transcends time, binding souls across lifetimes. Her journey is a heartfelt exploration of past lives and the enduring power of love.

How did you choose the title for your book? Did it come to you right away, before you started writing it, or did it come later?

Whenever a title, action sentence, or character name pops into my mind, I save it in my device folder and transfer it to my Dropbox, even if I never use it! But this title, Soul Love, pays homage to my deep love for my husband and my hope that our love transcends this lifetime and carries on to whatever comes next.

Tell us about the cover design process. Did you have a basic idea of what your book cover would be like?

Absolutely. Owning a small advertising agency since 1998 means I’ve mocked thousands of ads. I brought those skills with me when I ventured into the book industry. I usually start with a basic concept and use available images from Shutterstock or other professional sites to bring it to life. Some titles, like Spinning Time, use multiple images.

Who is your cover designer and how did you find him/her?

My talented art director from Jones Media, Amanda Northcutt, takes my mock-ups and makes them look fantastic. She’s been with me since 2005, and she’s simply fabulous!

What has been the readers’ response to your cover?

So far, readers love the cover! It’s been gratifying to see their positive reactions.

What tips would you give to authors who are looking for a cover designer?

Invest in your work and find a professional. Publisher’s Marketplace is a great starting point, but always vet your designers before hiring. A great cover is worth every penny.

Anything else you’d like to say about your book?

Summer and Rogan have a unique and lovely chemistry. If you’re a fan of fantasy with elements of past lives, time travel, and romance, then Soul Love is for you. Depending on readers’ responses, I may develop a second book. Please let me know your thoughts after reading!
