Interview:

Tell us about your book! What inspired you to write it?

I was inspired by God to write a book that would teach children lessons based on the principles in the bible.

How did you choose the title for your book? Did it come to you right away, before you started writing it, or did it come later?

The title came to me right away! It was the foundation for writing the book. I wrote the book around the title and the passage of the bible that teaches about the Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12).

Tell us about the cover design process. Did you have a basic idea of what your book cover would be like?

Yes! For this first book, I wanted a huge headshot of Grace who is the main character in the book. I wanted the reader to be able to quickly identify Grace.

Who is your cover designer and how did you find him/her?

The Illustrator of the book also designed the cover. He lives in California. The publisher solicited samples from different Illustrators. This particular Illustrator connected with my vision of the cover and appearance of the Grace and we began working together.

What has been the readers’ response to your cover?

The hair! Most people first comment on Grace’s free spirited hair. The hair was intentional in creating Grace. She’s different and proud of it.

What tips would you give to authors who are looking for a good cover designer?

Don’t settle for “that will do.” Make sure the cover designer connects with the vision and message of the book.

Anything else you’d like to say about your book?

Regarding the book cover, I selected the color purple for a couple of reasons. First, it is my favorite color. Secondly, it is the color of royalty.
